Boom times for Hong Kong Airport

July saw a big boost to the numbers of passengers going through Hong Kong International Airport as confidence returns to the region. In July alone a record 4.7 million passengers passed through the airport and there were a record number of plane movements at 26,720. The airport has seen a growth in new routes into and out of the airport and the re-establishment of old routes that were canceled or suspended during the height of the financial crisis.

There was a big jump in passenger numbers between mainland China and Hong Kong with an increase of 29% on passengers numbers a year ago between the regions. This compared with an average rise of 17% in passenger numbers.  The booming middle classes of mainland China made up a lot of the extra passengers as the tourist season got fully into it’s stride. From our own clients we’ve noticed a big increase in Chinese flying into Hong Kong and then requiring onward transfers to the cruise terminal. It appears that the Chinese love cruising as much as anyone else.

Flightcabs now operate 4 of it’s prestige long wheel base Jaguar XJ’s from the airport and we’ll shortly be launching our 6 seater standard taxi at Hong Kong International Airport. This will allow us to operate the Kia Sedonas taxi on journeys to and from the airport and they will also be available for transfer to and from Hong Kong Ocean Cruise Terminal.
