Despite a drop in passenger numbers of almost 1 million passengers last year and a fall in profits of £4 million confidence in East Midlands Airport appears to remain high with the opening of a new 200 plus bedroom Radisson Blu hotel. The new airport hotel is just 800m from the terminal and offers passengers flying out of the airport a convenient overnight stay. The new hotel will feature all the services you would want as a business traveler including high speed wifi and conferencing facilities. Leisure facilities include what you would now expect of a good quality airport hotel and includes a gym with swimming pool. The East Midlands Radisson Blu is the fifth dedicated airport hotel in the UK for the group.
It’s a positive sign for the airport as it’s gone through major disruptions this year including the ash cloud crisis and the latest problem has been dealing with the fall out of the collapse of Kiss flights who used the airport for a number of it’s flights.
With 4.5 million passengers a year the airport is a popular airline with many charter holiday companies and most of the passengers who use our taxi service to East Midlands Airport tend to be holidaymakers and tourists rather than the business traveler. New flights that will be starting later this year include flights to Munich and Cologne being operated by BMI Baby.
The new hotel and the new flights scheduled to operate at the airport will ensure that last years drop in passenger numbers is probably just a temporary blip before numbers start to increase again next year as the economy strengthens again.
