For the first time in 40 years P&O cruise lines are operating a no fly cruise to Alaska from the UK. This is an incredible opportunity to see and explore this amazing country ans scenery without the need to fly. I’ve penciled in my 10 week holiday to take advantage of this and really looking forward to putting my feet up and enjoying the voyage.

I’ve spent a number of years on the staffing side of cruise ships and I love the experience of that form of travel. The problem is you don’t get to see much when you are working on board so while I’ve been to Glacier Bay and Alaska on a number of occasions I’ve actually seen very little of it. I’ve also been through the Panama Canal on countless occasions but never actually seen it. This cruise will go through the Panama Canal twice!

It’s a cruise that’s going to provide me with the opportunity to spend time looking at the views of Alaska and get off the ship to explore a little more. The fact the the cruise leaves and arrives back at Southampton Cruise Terminal  in the UK is even better. It means no stressful air travel, no double checking of luggage weight to avoid excess charges. No risk of delays and no chance of lost luggage. It’s going to be a leisurely 72 days break exploring not just Alaska and Canada but stops in a number a North American cities. There’s no better way to arrive in New York or Boston than by sea.

We’re not even going to miss out on our suntans. Before the ship heads off to the northern wilderness it takes in the Caribbean and South America so we can get the tans toped up as we relax on deck.

We’re going to splash out a little bit and go for an outside stateroom – there’s no real need for a private balcony as we’re pretty sociable. It’s only 9 months away and it’s almost as exciting as having a baby!
